The costume was created by a fan named Jeffrey Aird for a costume contest by a Simpsons fan account on Instagram. He opted to pay homage to the Simpson family father by constructing his head out of his favorite thing: a doughnut.

The costume looks like a paper-maché construction, placing Simpson’s eyes on either side of the doughnut with a giant bite taken out of it. While the idea is certainly very clever, the large space between his eyes makes it a little freakier than the standard, bulging Homer eyes.

Besides the awkward shape, the biggest concern regarding the costume is easily safety, because the head looks gigantic, and the body looks very hard to navigate. While it’s not clear if it is top heavy, it certainly looks like it would be hard to fit through doorways without a struggle.

Safety concerns aside, there’s also some questions about practicality. It’s hard to tell if where the eye holes are (maybe around Homer’s mouth), and it doesn’t seem like the costume gives you access to your mouth, making it hard to eat candy (or drink Duff beer, for that matter).

Either way, the costume is still a very interesting and inventive take on the classic character that probably impressed guests at whatever Halloween party he went to.

Newsweek reached out to the costumer via Instagram Direct Message, but did not receive a response in time for publication.

The fan account that shared the Homer-doughnut hybrid also posted a bunch of other fans with unique takes on their obscure Simpsons characters or classic outfits from the iconic, animated TV family. Some standouts included a pregnant woman who made the best use of her baby bump and dressed as the comic book store guy from the show. Another included a fan pairing a Chanel suit with a large blue wig to emulate Marge’s outfit from the “Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield” episode. Other people played on their real-life resemblances to the characters, like a man who posed like Homer, while dressed like he’s going to work at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.
