Played by Yasmine Al-Bustami, fans may well see a lot less of the character given the events of Season 2’s seventh episode, “Vanishing Act.” Here is everything you need to know.

Is Yasmine Al-Bustami Leaving ‘NCIS: Hawaiʻi’? Future of Lucy Tara Explained

In “Vanishing Act,” it was revealed that Tara would be taking on a new job, a position on the NCIS Agent afloat program which she had applied for whilst she was broken up with girlfriend Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson).

After they got back together, Tara began to wonder whether she should indeed take the position or stay with Whistler. But in the end, Whistler managed to persuade her that she should still go for the job.

It will mean that Tara is away from Hawai’i, and apart from Whistler, for at least four months, which has made viewers question whether Al-Bustami will return at all.

Although there are some concerns over Al-Bustami’s departure from the show, fans need not worry as the actor is already confirmed to be returning to the franchise for its three-way crossover.

The franchise, which consists of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: Hawai’i, will be having a crossover event for the very first time in early 2023.

“We are so excited to finally have the long-awaited, first-ever NCISverse crossover to share with our passionate, loyal viewers,” Amy Reisenbach, executive vice president, Current Programs, said in a statement.

“The popularity, longevity and continued success of the franchise is a testament to the immense talent of the casts and writing and producing teams who bring these shows to life. They came up with a thrilling story for this epic three-hour event that creatively brings all three NCIS teams together for fans to enjoy in one night and beyond.”

It has been revealed that Al-Bustami will star in the third episode of the crossover event alongside her co-star Vanessa Lachey. The crossover will air on Monday, January 2 and will begin with NCIS and end with NCIS: Los Angeles, from 8 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET.

While Al-Bustami has been confirmed to be appearing in the crossover, it has not yet been revealed how many episodes of NCIS: Hawai’i she will miss or when she is likely to return to the spin-off. There are two episodes from now until the crossover, and it is also unclear whether the actor will appear in either of these.

Newsweek has contacted Yasmine Al-Bustami’s representatives and CBS for further comment.

NCIS Hawai’i airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
