Many of the top Indian forwards like Bengaluru FC duo Sunil Chhetri and Robin Singh and Sporting Clube de Goa’s Victorino Fernandes are missing from the ISL as their clubs don’t want to be a part of the new league so Balwant’s inclusion ensures that the highest Indian scorer in all competitions last season will be seen in action in the inaugural edition of ISL. When organisers IMG-Reliance were signing players for the domestic draft, Balwant was with Churchill Brothers and thus not made available for the ISL....

Hume’s latest off-field exploit was to completely trim the beard of Kerala Blasters’ team manager, Antony Thomas who had challenged him to score a hat-trick. In case you didn’t know… Hume broke his goal drought during Kerala Blasters’ last ISL game against Delhi Dynamos. The highest goal scorer in the history of the league scored a swift hat-trick to help his team post a 3-1 win over the struggling Dynamos....

“My family and I have enjoyed our time here so far and we want it to carry on. I want to stay on, fight hard and win the ISL and every other trophy we are competing for,” he said here. The Santa Coloma de Gramanet-born midfielder said his experience at the club has been amazing so far and his in ISL and AFC Cup was memorable. Delgado, 6th player to have signed an extension with Bengaluru, has been one of the standout performers by bagging three assists and scoring a goal against FC Goa before the home fans....

In case you didn’t know… Anwar Ali began his career with the Punjab Police team before moving on to JCT. The Punjab-born player was with JCT for four years before moving on to Dempo. Ali’s first big break came when Mohun Bagan came calling in 2010. The defender would go on to play for the Kolkata-based side for two years before moving on to newer pastures. After a stint with United Sikkim, the 33-year-old went on to sign for I-League club Mumbai FC....

NorthEast had most of the chances but Bengaluru FC found a winner in Chencho Gyeltshen 11 minutes after Federico Gallego’s equaliser at the hour mark. Mislov Komorski scored an own goal in the 14th minute but NorthEast had plenty of chances to retaliate. “Thing is, only one team played football and it was us,” Schattorie said after the game. “Bengaluru FC had only one shot on goal. If you compare them to us, we outplayed them....

Looking to win their third ISL title, Chennaiyin travel to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on September 29 to take on Bengaluru FC, the two sides having developed quite the rivalry in just the one season. It was here that John Gregory’s men triumphed 3-2 in last year’s final to trump Bengaluru on their own turf and it’s where their fifth season will begin. The champs then return home for their first two home games of the season, against FC Goa and NorthEast United on October 6 and October 18 respectively....
